Skin Cancer
What is skin cancer?
Superficial lumps and bumps range from a variety of benign to malignant skin condition. From benign conditions like sebaceous cysts and lipoma to malignant conditions like basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma, Dr Chua is able to clinically diagnose these lesions by clinical examination.
How do you treat skin cancer?
Treatment for all skin lesions involves local excision. Reconstruction by skin grafting or flap repair is offered where required.
How do you treat melanoma?
Melanoma is managed differently from the other skin lesions. When melanoma is suspected, an excisional biopsy is often performed first to confirm the diagnosis and evaluate the thickness of the melanoma. The full treatment can then be determined based on the thickness of the melanoma by offering the appropriate margins for wide local excision. Management of locoregional nodal basin is performed by sentinel node biopsy in patients with a clinically negative nodal station. In circumstance where there is obvious nodal involvement clinically, nodal clearance can be performed but prior referral to a local melanoma multidisciplinary team is necessary to ensure that the best and most up to date treatment is offered in an era where there are effective targeted treatments and immunotherapy drugs.
