Your Surgery
If an operative procedure is indicated, a quotation for the operation will be provided. Every operative fee comprise of three main components:
Surgeon’s fee – and if applicable, surgical assistant’s fee
Anaesthetist’s fee
Hospital fee – typically the excess of your insurance policy
A surgical quotation will be provided to cover the following aspects of your care:
The fee for your surgical procedure
Postoperative in-hospital reviews
All postoperative consultations conducted in clinic for 12 weeks following your surgery
After hours phone access to contact Dr Terence Chua
We charge a fee that is fair and reasonable in comparison to the market rate of fees charged by other surgeons. This is based on the complexity of the surgical procedure as well as the expertise and experience required for its performance to achieve optimal results. At times unexpected findings during your surgery may necessitate an additional procedure to achieve an optimal outcome. In some cases, this can incur an increase in the expected fees. Dr Chua carefully evaluates your condition as accurately as possible, so that the most precise quote can be provided prior to your procedure.
Once the date of surgery is booked, the surgeon’s fees are due in full.
Dr Chua understands and respects the sacrifice patients make to maintain private health insurance. As such, he charges a known-gap (up to $500 capped) rate for the majority of general surgical operations. Specialised procedures may incur a higher gap and management fee. The charges are made with due respect to patients but aims primarily to cover the time required to deliver excellence of treatment for his patients.
The surgical gap is dependent on the complexity of the operative procedure and the aftercare required. Private health insurance companies and Medicare do not provide surgeons a fee for the postoperative care that is often required to ensure a satisfactory recovery.
No Gap / No Out of Pocket Fees Procedures
No Gap Gastroscopy
No Gap Endoscopy
No Gap Colonoscopy
No Gap Treatment of Haemorrhoids (Minor)
Anaesthetic fees are calculated based upon the length of time under anaesthesia. Our anaesthetist partners share our philosophy and do not charge extravagant gaps. You will have the opportunity to discuss any out of pocket anaesthetic expense with the anaesthetist who will be involved in your surgery well in advance.
Being under the care of A/Prof Terence Chua, you will be reassured that you will be receiving a high quality personalised care from an expert surgeon. This is his ethical obligation, responsibility and commitment towards your health and wellbeing.
